Last week I wrote about how 2020 wasn’t actually that bad. Today, I want to share what I’m looking forward to in 2021. I’ve never been a big resolution maker, but after Jaymi Heimbuch shared hers on one of her podcast episodes, it was impossible not to get inspired and adopt some of these into my use as well. (Also, I highly recommend the podcast to anyone interested in conservation photography and storytelling, and this specific episode is well worth the listen to any photographers, in any niche and any skill level.
Obviously, the upcoming move (that is getting RAPIDLY closer!) is the biggest thing that is changing, and what kind of triggers all the rest of the things I’m so excited about. As much as I’ve enjoyed my years in the Netherlands, I’m excited to go back to Finland. I miss the freedom to roam, being able to get into nature and away from people when I want to. And I really miss the Finnish nature in general. It’s funny. Since a very young age, I wanted to move overseas and live abroad. I couldn’t wait to leave. And now, after spending a little more than a decade living away, I can’t wait to go back and explore as much as possible of my old home country with brand new eyes.
With the newly gained freedom to roam coming up, I have a whole list of Finland based story ideas and projects that I’m eager to pursue. I’m looking forward to creating and sharing a lot more content while exploring the great Finnish outdoors and the local natural world.
In preparation for all this content creation, I’m already busy learning new skills like new shooting techniques and skills outside of photography. Lately, I’ve been devouring A LOT of material in animal tracks and signs, and I can’t wait to start practising and learning more on the field as well. I’m also excited to start experimenting with camera trapping and combining these skills to create some fantastic imagery and discover some great stories.
All in all, even if travel continues to be restricted, I’m looking forward to 2021, my new neighbourhood, and making the most of it by having some amazing adventures in the Finnish wilderness!
